Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5886545 is a TNMG432RP turning insert in grade KCP40B, designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating — TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process — over a solid carbide substrate, providing high toughness on steel and moderate wear resistance on stainless steel. The 60-degree triangular insert profile delivers six usable cutting edges per insert. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125 inch corner radius, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge, it suits roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible KENLOC-series toolholders.

This insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and boring in job shop and production environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M). The RP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, handling a maximum depth of cut up to 0.2884 inch. The neutral hand designation means the insert is not handed left or right, making it adaptable across a range of toolholder orientations. It conforms to ANSI insert code TNMG432 and ISO code TNMG220408RP.

Key Features

  • Multilayer CVD coating: TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 via MTCVD process for extended tool life on steel and stainless steel
  • Six usable cutting edges per insert on a 60-degree triangular geometry
  • RP chip breaker optimized for roughing and medium machining operations
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with a wide range of KENLOC-series toolholder configurations
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping risk at entry and exit
  • Conforms to ANSI TNMG432 and ISO TNMG220408 standards

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting TNMG432 (ISO TNMG220408) inserts secured by clamp or pin holding methods. Intended for turning, facing, and boring of steel and stainless steel workpieces.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by machinists or CNC turning technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp or pin to avoid seating movement during the cut. Inspect the pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris prior to insert installation.
