The KENNAMETAL 5882892 is a CNMG543RP turning insert in grade KCM35B, designed for demanding metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating — TiN, TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process — which delivers high toughness on steel and moderate wear resistance on stainless steel. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, negative rake geometry, and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge combine to handle roughing and medium machining passes. With four usable cutting edges, this insert extends tool life per unit and reduces per-edge cost on high-volume turning runs. It measures 16.12 mm (0.6346 inches) in length and carries an ISO designation of CNMG160612RP.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications in steel (P-group) and stainless steel (M-group) workpieces, with additional applicability in superalloys and titanium. The RP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining cut depths, managing chip flow effectively under interrupted and continuous cut conditions. The negative side clearance and KENLOC series designation indicate compatibility with standard clamp-and-pin toolholders used in production and job-shop turning environments. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians performing high-feed or heavy-depth turning applications will find this insert appropriate for those cutting conditions.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series clamp-and-pin toolholders accepting CNMG543 or CNMG160612 insert geometry. Multi-use application covers turning, facing, and boring. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P-group), stainless steel (M-group), superalloys, and titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel following the machine tool manufacturer's lockout and toolholder torque procedures. Ensure the toolholder seat and clamp surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Index to a fresh cutting edge only after the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state. Verify chip breaker orientation matches the programmed feed direction before resuming cutting.
