The KENNAMETAL 5708276 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 1/4-20 UNC holes in high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys - materials that demand a tough, purpose-built cutting tool. This tap features a modified bottoming chamfer, a right-hand 2-flute spiral flute geometry with a 10-degree helix angle, and a dual-layer nitride and oxide coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. The H3 thread limit and 3B class of fit ensure consistent thread quality in production and maintenance environments. Machinists and toolroom professionals in aerospace, power generation, and industrial manufacturing will recognize this as a specialty tap built for difficult-to-machine workpiece materials.
This tap is suited for tapping 1/4-20 UNC threads in high-temp alloys and nickel-based materials in both production machining and precision repair work. The slow-spiral flute style improves chip evacuation in tough alloys. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. With a tapping depth of 1.0 inch and a thread length of 0.44 inches, it is appropriate for standard thread engagement depths on 1/4-20 fastener applications in industrial and aerospace component work. Coolant-through is not available on this tap.
Designed for tapping 1/4-20 UNC threads in high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys (workpiece material code S). Part of the KENNAMETAL T692 series of spiral flute taps.
This tap is intended for use by qualified machinists operating drill presses, CNC machining centers, or tapping machines. Always ensure the workpiece is secured and the spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material before tapping. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for nickel alloys and high-temp alloys to protect the tool and workpiece. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, as work-hardening materials can accelerate tool wear.
