The KENNAMETAL 5705871 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys. Manufactured from powdered metal vanadium high speed steel, it carries a multi-layer coating combining oxide and nitride finishes to extend tool life in demanding materials. The plug chamfer style makes it suited for through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole applications. With a left-hand flute direction and a 10-degree helix angle, the tool evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing chip packing in difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. This tap is specified to an H3 thread limit and a 3B class of fit for consistent, production-quality threads.
The 5705871 targets machining operations in aerospace, power generation, and industrial manufacturing where high-temperature alloys and nickel-based superalloys are common workpiece materials. The T690 series designation identifies this tap within KENNAMETAL's line of tooling engineered specifically for hard-to-machine materials. It is appropriate for use on CNC machining centers and manual tapping machines where coolant-through capability is not required. The plug chamfer suits both through-hole threading and starting threads in blind holes with adequate thread relief.
Designed for tapping high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys (primary workpiece material code S) in applications requiring 1/2-13 UNC, 3B class of fit threads. Part of the KENNAMETAL T690 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures for high-temperature alloy materials. Power down or de-energize the machine spindle completely before mounting or removing the tap from the holder. Use an appropriate tap holder with adequate torque control to avoid tap breakage in hard materials. Apply a suitable cutting fluid rated for nickel alloys and high-temperature superalloys to maximize tool life, even though this tap does not require coolant-through delivery.
