The KENNAMETAL 5705413 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in high-temperature alloys and nickel alloys. It is manufactured from powdered metal vanadium high speed steel and carries an AlCrTiN coating that improves heat and wear resistance during demanding tapping operations. The tap features a plug chamfer, 3-flute left-hand spiral geometry at a 10-degree helix angle, H3 thread limit, and a 3B class of fit. Overall length is 3.38 inches with a thread length of 0.77 inches and a tapping depth of 1.74 inches. It is intended for installation by machinist and toolroom trades in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for threading through or blind holes in high-temp alloy and nickel alloy workpieces where chip evacuation back toward the shank is required. The slow-spiral flute style is optimized for materials that produce stringy or tough chips. Typical applications include aerospace component machining, heat exchanger fabrication, and industrial equipment repair where 1/2-13 UNC internal threads are required to a 3B tolerance class. Coolant-through is not supported by this tool; external cutting fluid application is recommended when conditions allow.
Designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in high-temperature alloy and nickel alloy workpieces. Primary workpiece material code S. Part of the KENNAMETAL T690 series.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine spindle rated for the required torque. Before tapping, ensure the drilled hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for a 1/2-13 UNC thread at 3B class of fit. Secure the workpiece firmly and align the tap perpendicular to the hole surface to prevent tap breakage or thread misalignment. Use a suitable cutting fluid compatible with nickel and high-temp alloys, and clear chips frequently when working in blind holes.
