The KENNAMETAL 5698216 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CCMT3252LF in the KCK15B grade. It features a multilayer CVD coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD — engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability in interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C) provides a strong cutting edge, while the LF chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting with controlled chip flow. The insert measures 9.67 mm (0.3808 decimal inch) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It mounts via screw-on holding method and is suited for licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces — ISO material groups P and K. The positive rake angle of 5 degrees and honed cutting edge style make it well suited for finishing and light-to-medium roughing passes. The LF chip breaker geometry handles chip control across a range of depths of cut up to 0.1268 inch. Two cutting edges per insert are available, supporting cost-efficient use in high-volume turning programs on CNC lathes and turning centers.
The CCMT3252LF insert is a screw-on style compatible with toolholders accepting CCMT 32.52 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under uneven clamping force. Inspect the pocket seat and shim for wear or debris before installing a new edge.
