The KENNAMETAL 5698120 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT triangle style, designed for precision turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by industry-standard code TCMT3251LF (ISO: TCMT16T304LF), it carries the KCP25B grade designation and features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining applications. The insert measures 0.6495 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a 5/32-inch thickness. It is mounted via screw-on holding method and provides three usable cutting edges, offering neutral hand orientation and a positive rake and side clearance geometry.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining passes on steel and cast iron workpieces, as well as aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The KCP25B grade delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it appropriate for stable cuts where surface finish and edge consistency are priorities. It is used by machinists and tooling technicians in job shops, production turning cells, and aerospace or general metalworking environments. The screw-on mounting style is compatible with standard TCMT-style toolholders.
Designed for use in standard TCMT-style screw-on toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code TCMT3251 and ISO insert code TCMT16T304. Applicable to turning, facing, and boring of steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians using standard insert torx or hex keys specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Confirm the insert pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before tightening to prevent seating errors. Do not exceed the maximum recommended depth of cut of 0.2163 inches for this insert geometry.
