The KENNAMETAL 5697976 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG543RN configuration, finished with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN under the KCP10B grade designation. It belongs to the KENLOC series and features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation. The inscribed circle measures 0.625 inches, insert length is 1.526 inches, and the corner radius is 0.047 inches. With four cutting edges and a chamfered, honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for high wear-resistance in steel machining and moderate wear-resistance with toughness for aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry support stable, aggressive cuts at higher depths, making this insert a practical choice for production turning environments in both job shop and manufacturing settings. It conforms to ANSI insert code DNMG543 and ISO insert code DNMG190612, and carries material grades C3 and C7.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge registration.
