The KENNAMETAL 5697968 is a DNMG432 negative-rake carbide turning insert with a KCP10B grade multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process. It features a diamond 55-degree insert shape, a 0.0313-inch corner radius, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge for consistent performance in interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert carries an RP chip breaker geometry with a 5-degree rake angle and four usable cutting edges, making it a cost-effective choice for production turning operations on steel and cast iron. It belongs to the KENLOC series and conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for roughing and semi-finishing operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both ferrous production and job shop environments. Its multi-use geometry supports turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. The 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and 1.2208-inch insert length accommodate moderate to heavy material removal rates. The KCP10B coating grade is engineered for steel and cast iron cutting where thermal wear resistance and crater resistance are priorities.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders and compatible negative-rake DNMG insert seats. Suitable for steel (material code P) and cast iron (material code K) workpiece materials. Material grade classifications C3 and C7 apply. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the KENNAMETAL KENLOC system documentation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Ensure the insert pocket and locating pin are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque tool as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker condition before each use and rotate or replace the insert when flank wear reaches the limit for the application.
