The KENNAMETAL 5697947 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CPGM3252 and ISO designation CPGM09T308, designed for precision metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process under the manufacturer grade KCP10B. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With a 0.0313-inch corner radius and 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, this insert is suited for medium machining chip breaker applications on steel and cast iron workpieces. Installation requires a screw-on holding method.
This insert is applied in CNC turning centers and manual lathes for machining steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The KCP10B grade is characterized by high wear resistance on steel (P-grade materials) and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous (N-grade) applications. It is used by machinists and tooling setters in production and job-shop environments where consistent dimensional control and tool life on medium-depth passes are required. The two cutting edges allow the insert to be indexed once before replacement, supporting cost-effective tooling cycles.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting CPGM3252 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel, cast iron) and N (aluminum and non-ferrous). Conforms to ANSI size code 3252 and ISO size code 09T308.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket before tightening the retaining screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or damage before each indexing. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1268 inches for this insert geometry.
