The KENNAMETAL 5697939 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal removal on steel and cast iron workpieces. It carries the CNMG643RP industry standard designation and ISO code CNMG190612RP, with manufacturer grade KCP10B. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating system — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN — that delivers high wear resistance on steel (P) and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N). With a 3/4 inch inscribed circle, 1/4 inch thickness, and a 3/64 inch corner radius, this is a robust insert suited to roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install it using a clamp or pin holding method.
This insert is applicable in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes in both production and job-shop environments. Its RP chip breaker geometry is engineered for roughing and medium machining, making it well suited to interrupted or continuous cuts on steel and cast iron. The 80-degree diamond shape and negative rake angle provide strength at the cutting edge, while the chamfered and honed cutting edge style improves edge integrity under heavy loads. It is a multi-use insert with 4 indexable cutting edges, reducing per-edge tooling cost in high-volume turning applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for KENLOC series toolholders accepting CNMG643 inserts with clamp or pin holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG-style turning inserts.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and verify clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the cutting edge condition and chip breaker geometry before each use to confirm no chipping or wear beyond acceptable limits.
