The KENNAMETAL 5697937 is a CNMG642RN indexable turning insert in grade KCP10B, designed for steel and cast iron machining in turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN, delivering high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a negative rake and negative side clearance. Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the RN chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining applications. Cutting edges are chamfered and honed for stable entry and reduced chipping risk.
This insert is suited for production turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in both residential-adjacent and industrial manufacturing environments. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and boring of steel and cast iron workpieces. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with KENLOC-style insert holders that accept CNMG-style inserts secured by clamp or pin holding methods. The insert is held to ANSI and ISO dimensional standards, with an ANSI code of CNMG642 and ISO code of CNMG190608.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement insert for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG-style inserts per ANSI code CNMG642 and ISO code CNMG190608. Compatible with clamp and pin holding systems. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel and cast iron workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to avoid microfracture at the cutting edge. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge.
