The KENNAMETAL 5697923 is a CNMG432FW turning insert in grade KCP10B, engineered for precision finishing operations on steel and cast iron. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN, delivering high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32 inch corner radius. The FW chip breaker geometry is a wiper-style design optimized for finishing cuts. With four cutting edges and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, this insert suits high-productivity turning programs where surface finish and tool life are priorities.
This insert is designed for use in external turning, facing, and boring operations. It is suited to CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron, with additional capability on aluminum and non-ferrous alloys (ISO N). The wiper edge geometry allows feed rates higher than conventional inserts while maintaining or improving surface finish, making it a common choice for finishing passes where dimensional accuracy is critical. The ANSI size code is 432 and the ISO equivalent is CNMG120408FW.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting CNMG432 (ISO CNMG120408) inserts with clamp or pin retention. Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards for interchangeable fitment with compatible negative-rake CNMG toolholders from multiple manufacturers.
Turning insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians following machine lockout and spindle stop procedures before any insert change. Seat the insert fully onto the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp or pin is torqued according to the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut listed in the technical specifications for this insert geometry.
