The KENNAMETAL 5697188 is a VNMG432RN KCP10B solid carbide turning insert designed for metal cutting operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN. The KCP10B grade delivers high wear-resistance on steel and moderate wear-resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The insert measures 22.14 mm (approximately 0.87 inches) in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, and it carries four usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed HVAC techs and machinists in production and maintenance turning operations rely on this insert for both roughing and medium machining passes.
This insert is suited for steel and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability on aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. The RN chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining chip control, making it appropriate for moderate to heavy material removal rates in production turning environments. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry is consistent with high-stability clamping in VNMG-style toolholders. It is sold in packages of one insert with a minimum order quantity of five units.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders from the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series that accept VNMG432 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with clamp and pin holding methods. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians following standard CNC or manual lathe toolholder procedures. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and secure the clamp or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure before resuming cutting. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before each use; do not use a cracked or chipped insert.
