Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5697171 is a TNMG332FF indexable turning insert in grade KCP10B, designed for precision finishing operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN, applied via MTCVD process, which delivers high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. With a 60-degree triangular shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it provides six usable cutting edges per insert. The FF chip breaker geometry and 20-degree rake angle are optimized for finishing cuts. This insert is used by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.

The 5697171 is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. It excels in finishing passes on steel and cast iron at controlled depths of cut up to 0.2163 inches. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard TNMG-style toolholders using either clamp or pin holding methods. Its KENLOC series designation aligns it with KENNAMETAL KENLOC toolholder systems. The insert conforms to both ANSI insert code TNMG332 and ISO insert code TNMG160408, making it straightforward to cross-reference with existing toolholder setups.

Key Features

  • Multilayer CVD coating: TiCN plus Al2O3 plus TiOCN for extended tool life on steel
  • FF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing operations
  • Six cutting edges per insert for maximum economy
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with standard TNMG clamp and pin toolholders
  • Conforms to ANSI TNMG332 and ISO TNMG160408 standards
  • Multi-use application: turning, facing, and boring

Compatibility

Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders compatible with ANSI size code 332 and ISO size code 160408. Accepts clamp or pin holding methods. Part of the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Disengage machine power and confirm the spindle is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamp screw to seat the insert correctly without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new edge.
