The KENNAMETAL 5697164 is a SNMG643RN turning insert in the KCP10B grade, designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations. It is made from solid carbide and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN, which provides high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The insert has a 90-degree square shape with a negative rake angle and neutral hand orientation. It measures 0.75 inches on the inscribed circle with a 0.047 inches corner radius, and delivers up to 0.25 inches maximum depth of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in KENLOC-style toolholders for roughing and medium machining applications.
This insert is suited for primary workpiece materials including steel and cast iron, with secondary capability on aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. It is commonly used in production turning environments on CNC lathes and turning centers where consistent material removal rates and tool life are required. The RN chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining passes. With 8 usable cutting edges per insert, it offers extended service life per unit. The insert meets both ANSI and ISO standards, carrying ANSI code SNMG643 and ISO code SNMG190612.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept SNMG-style inserts with a 0.3125-inch hole diameter, clamp, or pin holding method. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the KENLOC toolholder to secure the insert properly. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the machine shop safety procedures and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for insert indexing.
