The KENNAMETAL 5697035 is a VNMG331FN turning insert in the KENLOC series, manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN under the KCP10B grade designation. This insert carries a 35-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 10 degrees. The cutting edge is honed for controlled engagement, and the FN chip breaker geometry supports stable chip formation during continuous cuts. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians running turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert measures 16.61 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius.
This insert is designed for primary use on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. The KCP10B grade and MTCVD coating process make it well suited for general-purpose and interrupted-cut turning where heat resistance and wear resistance are critical. It is held in place using a clamp and pin method, common to KENNAMETAL KENLOC-style toolholders. With four available cutting edges per insert, it offers efficient cost-per-edge economics in production turning environments. The VNMG331FN geometry and ANSI and ISO standard compliance mean it fits toolholders dimensioned to those specifications.
Designed for use with KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron. Multi-use application includes turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Before seating the insert, ensure the toolholder pocket and locating pin are clean and free of chips or debris, as contamination will affect insert seating and dimensional accuracy. Secure the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and cutting edge condition at each tool change.
