The KENNAMETAL 5697021 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG431FN geometry, grade KCP10B, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D), a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The multilayer MTCVD coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN — provides wear resistance and thermal stability suited for interrupted and continuous cuts in steel and cast iron. With four cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert is a productive, indexable option for high-volume turning operations.
This insert is well suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in ferrous materials. It is recommended for primary workpiece materials classified as Steel (P) and Cast Iron (K) per ISO material group designations. The KENLOC series insert is held by clamp and pin methods and carries a negative rake angle of 10 degrees. It is compliant with both ANSI and ISO standards, making it compatible with toolholders designed around the DNMG insert form factor. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production or job-shop environments.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series and DNMG-compatible toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert-holding methods. Meets ANSI and ISO dimensional standards for the DNMG insert form factor. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications in Steel (P) and Cast Iron (K) workpiece materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid damaging the insert seat or the insert itself. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert edge.
