The KENNAMETAL 5697019 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT style, designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the KCP10B manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The insert has a 55-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. The LF chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style support consistent chip control during roughing and semi-finishing passes.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It is a neutral-hand insert compatible with screw-on style toolholders, making it a practical choice for both production shops and maintenance machining environments. With two cutting edges per insert, it provides economical use in high-volume turning cells as well as job shop applications.
Designed for use in screw-on style DCMT toolholders. Industry standard number DCMT3251LF and ISO code DCMT11T304LF identify compatible holders per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for primary workpiece materials steel and cast iron. Material grades C3 and C7.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to toolholder manufacturer specifications without overtightening, which can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination affects insert stability and surface finish. Verify insert orientation for neutral-hand applications before resuming cutting operations.
