The KENNAMETAL 5694866 is a CNMG431UN indexable turning insert in the KCK15B grade, designed for metal cutting operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It features a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With 4 cutting edges and a UN chip breaker geometry, it is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators install this insert in KENLOC-compatible toolholders.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The KCK15B grade targets high wear resistance on steel and a balance of wear resistance to toughness on cast iron. The UN chip breaker geometry handles variable stock conditions typical of roughing to medium-depth cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.1691 inches. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry suit it to mechanically clamped or pin-lock toolholders commonly found on lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG431 (ISO CNMG120404) negative-rake inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert geometry standards for broad toolholder interchangeability.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians on lathes or turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert seat and pocket for chips or wear debris before seating a new edge.
