The KENNAMETAL 5689815 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in non-ferrous metal applications. Built from vanadium high-speed steel (HSS-E) to material grade KSMN34, this tap delivers the wear resistance and edge retention needed for production threading environments. The TiN/CrC/C multilayer coating reduces friction and extends tool life in repetitive tapping operations. It carries a 10-24 UNC thread form with a right-hand thread direction, H3 thread limit, and Class 2B fit tolerance. With an overall length of 2.76 inches and a 15/32-inch thread length, it fits standard tap holders used in machine and hand tapping setups.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. The plug chamfer style — typically 3 to 5 lead threads — makes it appropriate for through-hole applications where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. It belongs to Kennametal Series T672 and is used in machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations across manufacturing, maintenance, and fabrication environments. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
Designed for through-hole threading of 10-24 UNC threads in non-ferrous metal workpieces. Fits standard straight-shank tap holders accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping operations and cutting tool handling. Secure the tap in a properly sized tap holder or chuck before use, and ensure the workpiece is firmly fixtured. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed is appropriate for the material and tap diameter before starting the cut. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if cutting edges show visible damage.
