The KENNAMETAL 5689675 is a DFSP-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and industrial applications. The body accepts two indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 2.439 inches at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio, with a cutting diameter of 0.8524 inches (nominal 13/16 inches). The tool is constructed from steel, features right-hand cutting direction, and integrates both axial concentric and radial coolant delivery to support extended cutting cycles and chip evacuation. A Weldon flat and flange shank with a 1-inch shank diameter ensures rigid, accurate seating in compatible tool holders.
This drill is suited for production and job-shop environments where repeatable hole quality and fast insert changes are required. The DFSP series accepts DFT and SPGX compatible insert styles in size codes 0303 and 0603, giving the operator flexibility in insert selection based on workpiece material and cycle requirements. Coolant-through capability supports both through-spindle and external coolant setups. Typical applications include drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Compatible with DFT and SPGX indexable insert styles in size codes 0303 and 0603. Designed for use in tool holders that accept a 1-inch Weldon flat and flange shank. Coolant hole thread sizes are 1/4-18 NPT at the shank end and 1/8-27 NPT at the body side. Insert lock screws are M2.2-0.45x6.3 T7 drive.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy sources are locked out before mounting or changing inserts. Seat the shank firmly in a compatible Weldon flat holder and verify runout before cycling the machine. Follow the insert manufacturer torque guidance for the M2.2 insert lock screw to avoid over-torquing the T7 drive recess.
