The KENNAMETAL 5684657 is a solid carbide milling insert manufactured to ISO code LNPU15T608SRGE and ANSI code LNPU542SRGE. It carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN applied for wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed milling operations. The insert measures 0.274 inches thick and 0.394 inches in inscribed circle diameter, with a 0.031-inch corner radius and a positive rake geometry. It features a chamfered and honed cutting edge style with four usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in compatible indexable milling cutters for production machining of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium alloys.
This insert is suited for indexable face milling, shoulder milling, and pocketing operations in job shop and production environments. It is designed for right-hand cutting and belongs to the LNPU series with the GE chip breaker geometry, which is optimized for light-to-medium chip loads on ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The KCPM40 grade targets steel and stainless steel as primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability on superalloys and titanium. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method and is compatible with the Kennametal Mill 4-15 cutter series.

Milling insert replacement is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to secure the clamp screw — do not overtighten or undertighten the screw, as both conditions affect edge stability. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
