The KENNAMETAL 5641115 is a VNMG331MP geometry turning insert in the KENLOC series, manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer MTCVD TiCN and Al2O3 coating under the KCM15B grade designation. This neutral-hand insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a negative rake and relief angle geometry. It is designed for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades do not apply here — this insert is used by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking environments. The KCM15B grade balances moderate wear resistance with toughness for P- and M-class workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel and stainless steel components. The MP chip breaker geometry handles both roughing and medium machining passes, making it a practical choice when a single insert style needs to cover a range of depths of cut up to 0.4354 inches. The four available cutting edges and clamp-and-pin holding method are consistent with standard VNMG toolholder setups used in production and job-shop CNC turning applications.

Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can affect insert seating and tool life. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for the VNMG pocket style — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp force.
