The KENNAMETAL 5640960 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CCMT3251MP and ISO designation CCMT09T304MP. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a KCM15B grade multilayer coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD and CVD processes. The insert measures 0.375 inches in length, carries a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a 5/32-inch thickness. Designed with a neutral hand and positive rake angle of 12 degrees, it is built for screw-on toolholder mounting. This insert is appropriate for licensed machinists and CNC operators performing turning, facing, and boring operations.
The KENNAMETAL 5640960 is suited for roughing and medium machining applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Its MP chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across moderate to heavy material removal rates. The KCM15B grade provides moderate wear resistance and toughness for steel (P) applications, and high to moderate wear resistance and toughness for stainless steel (M) applications. Typical use cases include general-purpose CNC turning centers and manual lathes in job shop and production environments where multiple workpiece materials are encountered.
Compatible with screw-on toolholders accepting CCMT3251 (ANSI) or CCMT09T304 (ISO) inserts. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), superalloys, and titanium. Material grades C2 and C3. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not estimate. Inspect the cutting edge and seating surfaces for debris before securing, as improper seating can cause insert breakage or dimensional inaccuracy during cutting.
