The KENNAMETAL 5615609 is a VNMG332FN turning insert in grade KCP10B, designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a negative rake angle and neutral hand orientation. The substrate is solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and cast iron workpieces. The FN chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts. With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert offers a practical cost-per-edge value for production turning environments.
This insert is suited for finishing operations on steel and cast iron in both P and N material classifications per ISO designation. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on precision components. The KENLOC series is commonly used in high-volume production machining where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. The KCP10B grade provides high wear resistance in steel applications and moderate wear resistance with toughness in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. This insert is appropriate for use in shops running moderate to high cutting speeds on ferrous and select non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for VNMG332FN inserts in KENLOC series toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code VNMG332 and ISO insert code VNMG160408. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 35-degree diamond insert with negative rake and clamp or pin clamping.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
