Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5615017 is a double-sided solid carbide milling insert in the XCP series, designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling applications. It carries a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating under the KCU25 manufacturer grade, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 18.01 mm in length, 4.01 mm in width, and 4.20 mm in thickness, with a 0.20 mm corner radius and a chamfered and honed cutting edge. Two cutting edges per insert and a positive rake angle of 11 degrees contribute to efficient chip formation and reduced cutting forces.

This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing passes. It fits the KNS cutter series and is compatible with cutter bodies accepting XCP-style inserts of size code 34. The GP chip breaker geometry supports general-purpose milling in shops running CNC machining centers, horizontal mills, and vertical mills in job shop, automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments. A maximum depth of cut of 14.51 mm supports aggressive material removal when paired with the appropriate cutter body.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use a torx or hex key appropriate for the cutter body clamp screw and ensure the insert seats fully in the pocket before torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris that could affect seating and dimensional accuracy.
