The KENNAMETAL 5596468 is a CNMG432RP turning insert in grade KCM25B, designed for external and internal turning operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating system of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during moderate to heavy material removal. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry, while the RP chip breaker and chamfered-and-honed edge prep improve chip control and edge toughness. The insert measures 12.90 mm in length with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 1/32 inch corner radius.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production shop and job shop environments. Primary target materials are steels (ISO P), stainless steels (ISO M), and superalloys and titanium (ISO S), making it applicable across general machining and aerospace or energy component work. The neutral hand orientation and four available cutting edges make it a cost-effective choice for high-volume runs. It is held using clamp and pin methods within the KENLOC toolholding system. Licensed machinists and CNC operators familiar with indexable insert tooling are the primary installers.
Designed for use in KENLOC-compatible toolholders accepting CNMG432 inserts. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards; ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120408RP. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications in toolholding systems that support clamp and pin retention.
Indexable turning inserts should be seated and clamped by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1691 inches as stated for this insert geometry.
