The KENNAMETAL 5592160 is a VNMG333MR KCM15 grade solid carbide turning insert engineered for steel and stainless steel machining applications. It features a multilayer CVD coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to moderate roughing and medium machining passes. The insert carries a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a negative rake angle of 20 degrees, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge style. With four usable cutting edges and an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, it provides extended tool life per insert. Installed in KENLOC-style toolholders, this insert is a standard choice for production turning operations requiring consistent performance across ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The MR chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining chip control. The KCM15 grade targets steel (P-category) applications requiring moderate wear resistance and toughness, and stainless steel (M-category) applications requiring high to moderate wear resistance and toughness. It conforms to ANSI insert code VNMG333 and ISO insert code VNMG160412, making it compatible with standard VNMG-style toolholding systems commonly used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes in both job shop and production environments.
Compatible with KENLOC-series and standard VNMG-style clamp and pin toolholders accepting VNMG333 (ANSI) or VNMG160412 (ISO) inserts. Designed for use on steel, stainless steel, and superalloy and titanium workpiece materials per primary material codes P and M.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate clamp and pin holding method as specified by the toolholder manufacturer, and verify secure seating before resuming cutting. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.4356 inches without confirming toolholder and machine rigidity ratings.
