The KENNAMETAL 5591950 is a CNMG431RP indexable turning insert in grade KCM25B, designed for external and internal turning operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied by MTCVD process, delivering a combination of high toughness and moderate wear resistance suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry, while the RP chip breaker is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard CNMG-style toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The KCM25B grade characteristics target steel (P) applications requiring high toughness and stainless steel (M) applications requiring a balance of wear resistance and toughness. It is well suited for production environments where a single insert grade must handle varying material conditions and cut depths up to 0.1691 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in manufacturing, job shop, and maintenance machining environments are the typical end users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENLOC series toolholders accepting CNMG431 geometry inserts held by clamp or pin methods. Fits any ANSI CNMG431 or ISO CNMG120404 compatible toolholder with a 0.2031-inch hole diameter requirement.
Installation is performed by machining professionals following standard indexable insert procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating tool for the specific KENLOC toolholder clamp style to avoid micro-fractures at the insert seat. Inspect the pocket seat and shim for wear or carbide buildup before seating a new insert edge.
