The KENNAMETAL 5591799 is a CNMG643MP indexable turning insert in grade KCM25B, designed for steel and stainless steel turning operations where toughness and moderate wear resistance are priorities. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied by MTCVD process, delivering thermal and abrasion protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. With an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, negative rake, and neutral hand, it fits standard KENLOC-style toolholders and is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. Four cutting edges extend tool life per insert.
This insert is intended for use in CNC turning centers and conventional lathes performing turning, facing, and boring operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The MP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium material removal rates, making it a practical choice for production shops running P- and M-grade workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments are the typical installers and users of this insert series.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG643 (ISO CNMG190612) negative-rake inserts. Compatible with clamp and pin holding methods. Verified by ANSI and ISO standards. Refer to KENNAMETAL toolholder documentation to confirm seating and clamping compatibility before use.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the spindle at a full stop and machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating pin for KENLOC-style clamp systems — follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Never run a chipped or cracked insert.
