Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5591781 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG332MP geometry, ground to ANSI and ISO standards and carrying the KCM25B manufacturer grade. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied through an MTCVD process, which delivers high toughness against steel and moderate wear-resistance and toughness against stainless steel. It has a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake angle of 6 degrees, a negative side clearance, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. Four usable cutting edges are available per insert. The MP chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining operations.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in both job shop and production environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P and M. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with KENNAMETAL clamp and pin-style toolholders designed for VNMG geometry inserts. It is appropriate for moderate to heavy material removal rates where edge toughness and coating adhesion under interrupted or scaled cuts are required.

Installation Notes

Turning inserts of this type are seated and secured by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw and inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
