The KENNAMETAL 5591172 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CCMT3251MF and ISO designation CCMT09T304, designed for precision metal-cutting operations in CNC and manual turning applications. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 0.0156 inch corner radius and a 0.375 inch inscribed circle diameter. The KCM25B grade incorporates a multilayer MTCVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN, providing high toughness on steel and moderate wear-resistance on stainless steel. Insert thickness is 0.1563 inches. This insert is installed by machining professionals and CNC operators in production turning, facing, and boring setups.
This insert is suited for finishing and medium machining operations on steel (P-grade materials), stainless steel (M-grade materials), and superalloys and titanium. The MF chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation during these operations. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and boring passes where consistent surface finish and edge life are required. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible use across a range of toolholder configurations. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1268 inches, making it appropriate for light-to-medium stock removal.
Designed for use in screw-on CCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3251 size code insert. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Power down the machine and confirm the spindle is fully stopped before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
