The KENNAMETAL 5591128 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI insert code CCMT3251FP and grade KCM25B. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a multilayer CVD coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process — engineered for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches), the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches), and insert thickness is 5/32 inch (0.1563 inches). With a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and honed cutting edge style, this insert is designed for high-toughness performance on P-group steels and moderate wear resistance on M-group stainless steel applications.
This insert is intended for CNC lathe and turning center operations including turning, facing, and boring in production and job-shop environments. The KCM25B grade targets finishing passes on steel and stainless steel workpieces where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. The screw-on holding method suits standard CCMT toolholders. Primary workpiece material codes are P and M, covering carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, and superalloys and titanium. It is a neutral-hand insert compatible with both left- and right-hand toolholder configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for standard CCMT screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO specifications. Compatible with toolholders accepting CCMT 3251 (ANSI) or CCMT 09T304 (ISO) insert seats. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium (primary workpiece material codes P and M).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all power is locked out per shop lockout-tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the screw-on insert securely in the toolholder pocket; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Verify insert seating and toolholder projection before returning the machine to service.
