The KENNAMETAL 5588387 is a solid carbide milling insert in the LNGU series, grade KCPM40, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding milling applications. The insert carries a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN, which extends tool life when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It measures 0.274 inches thick and 0.394 inches in inscribed circle diameter, with a rectangular LNGU shape and a 90-degree included angle. Four cutting edges and a positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces and heat generation at the tool-workpiece interface. The honed cutting edge style and GE chip breaker geometry support controlled chip evacuation. Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians, this insert fits screw-type clamping systems.
This insert is intended for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both production and job-shop environments. It is compatible with the Kennametal Mill 4-15 cutter series. The right-hand configuration and LNGU insert style make it a direct fit for toolholders specifying ANSI code LNGU542ERGE or ISO code LNGU15T608ERGE. Applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling where consistent surface finish and edge integrity are required across difficult-to-machine workpiece materials.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the cutter body to seat the screw clamp to the manufacturer torque specification found in the cutter body documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause edge failure or insert breakage during cutting.
