The KENNAMETAL 5550795 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the HNPJ0905ANSNGD ISO designation and KCPM40 manufacturer grade. It features a hexagon insert shape with 12 cutting edges and a double-sided configuration, maximizing tool life between index cycles. The insert is PVD-coated with a TiAlN and AlCrN multilayer finish, providing heat and oxidation resistance during aggressive milling passes. A 0.047-inch corner radius and chamfered, honed cutting edge style help control entry forces and reduce chipping. At 0.219 inches thick and 0.625 inches inscribed circle diameter, this insert is sized for the Dodeka cutter series. Neutral hand orientation suits a range of toolholder setups. A licensed machinist or CNC programmer typically specifies and installs this insert.
This insert is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material application codes P, M, and S. It fits into the KENNAMETAL Dodeka cutter series, which uses the HNPJ series insert form with screw-type insert holding. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.505 inches, making it applicable to both roughing and semi-finishing operations on ferrous and high-temp alloy workpieces. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the cutter body is removed from the spindle and the machine is powered down and locked out before handling inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not over-torque. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
