Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 5550793 is a solid carbide milling insert designated by catalog number HNGJ0905ANSNGD in the HNGJ series, engineered for demanding metal-removal operations in milling applications. It carries a KCPM40 manufacturer grade and is dual-coated with TiAlN and AlCrN applied via PVD process, providing heat and wear resistance at the cutting edge. The insert features a hexagon shape with a 120-degree included angle, 12 usable cutting edges on a double-sided body, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. A negative rake geometry and 0-degree relief angle make it well suited to interrupted cuts and heavy milling passes in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials.

This insert is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering primary workpiece material codes P, M, and S. It is compatible with the Kennametal Dodeka cutter series and uses a screw-in holding method. The GD chip breaker geometry helps control chip evacuation across a range of axial and radial depths of cut typical in face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed applications in production machining environments. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC setup technicians.

Key Features

  • KCPM40 grade solid carbide substrate with dual PVD TiAlN and AlCrN coating for extended tool life in steel and superalloy cutting
  • 12 cutting edges per insert on a double-sided hexagon body maximizes cost-per-edge value
  • Neutral hand orientation provides flexible mounting in compatible Dodeka cutter bodies
  • GD chip breaker controls chip formation during milling of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style improves edge stability and reduces chipping under interrupted cut conditions
  • Screw-in insert holding method delivers consistent seating and repeatable tool geometry at changeover

Compatibility

Compatible with the Kennametal Dodeka cutter series. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, and S). Conforms to ANSI code HNGJ535ANSNGD and ISO code HNGJ0905ANSNGD.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body specification; over-torquing can crack the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating each insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
