The KENNAMETAL 5550703 is a solid carbide hexagon milling insert in the KCPM40 grade, designed for high-performance milling of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a TiAlN and AlCrN PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features a negative rake geometry with chamfered and honed cutting edges, delivering controlled chip formation and edge stability. With 12 cutting edges on a double-sided body, this insert offers extended tool life per unit, making it a practical choice for production milling environments where cost-per-edge matters.
This insert is suited for use in Kennametal Dodeka cutter bodies and is intended for milling applications in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials, including carbon steels, austenitic stainless steels, and titanium alloys. It fits the HNPJ insert series and is identified by ANSI code HNPJ43ANSNGD and ISO code HNPJ0604ANSNGD. Typical applications include face milling and shoulder milling on CNC machining centers in both job shop and production environments. Chip breaker designation is GD. The insert is held in the cutter body by screw clamping.
Designed for use in Kennametal Dodeka series milling cutter bodies. ANSI code HNPJ43ANSNGD and ISO code HNPJ0604ANSNGD. Rated for primary workpiece material codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), and S (superalloys and titanium).
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key driver specified for the Dodeka cutter body to torque the clamping screw without over-driving, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive point load. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure full, flat contact.
