The KENNAMETAL 5545216 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDPT series, designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Carrying grade KCPM40 and a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN, this insert delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The parallelogram insert shape features a positive rake angle of 18 degrees and a chamfered and honed cutting edge for controlled chip formation. With an inscribed circle of 0.265 inches and a thickness of 0.148 inches, this right-hand insert is sized to ISO code EDPT10T308PDSRGD and ANSI code EP1008SGD. It is screw-held and compatible with the Mill 1-10 cutter series.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing applications where edge integrity and coating durability are critical. The GD chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip evacuation across these material groups. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking environments. Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians using the screw-clamp holding method standard to EDPT-series insert pockets. Ensure the cutter body and pocket seat are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder specification provided by the cutter body manufacturer. Inspect cutting edges before each use and replace the insert when wear exceeds acceptable limits to avoid workpiece damage or tool body harm.
