The KENNAMETAL 5545215 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation EDPT10T304PDERHD and manufacturer grade KCPM40. It features a dual-layer PVD coating — TiAlN and AlCrN — engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The parallelogram-shaped, single-sided insert has a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a 15-degree relief angle, reducing cutting forces on difficult materials. With 2 cutting edges, an inscribed circle of 0.266 inches, and a thickness of 0.148 inches, it is sized for precision milling operations in demanding production environments. The HD chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during aggressive cuts.
This insert is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — workpiece material codes P, M, and S under ISO classification. It is a right-hand insert compatible with the Mill 1-10 cutter series and is held in the cutter body via screw-clamp mounting. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general material removal on CNC machining centers in industrial manufacturing and job shop environments. The combination of PVD coating and honed cutting edge style makes it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface integrity matters.
Compatible with the Kennametal Mill 1-10 cutter series. Insert size code 10T304 fits cutter bodies designed for EDPT-series inserts. Conforms to ANSI code EP1004EHD and ISO code EDPT10T304PDERHD.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the cutter body is secured before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key for the clamping screw and follow the cutter body manufacturer's specified torque procedure for the pocket screw — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
