The KENNAMETAL 5537429 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI code CPMT2151FP and grade designation KCP25B. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches). The insert carries a multilayer MTCVD coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN — engineered for moderate wear resistance and toughness on steel and cast iron. With a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance, this insert is configured for finishing operations. It is held by a screw-on method and is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications. Its FP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces, including P-grade and N-grade materials. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0845 inches, making it appropriate for light to moderate material removal where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops, maintenance facilities, and contract machining environments will find this insert well suited to finish-turning steel and cast iron components.
Designed for use in CPMT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick diamond insert. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel) and N (aluminum and non-ferrous), per ANSI and ISO standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to fasten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten. Inspect the seating pocket and chip breaker contact surfaces for debris before inserting to ensure proper support and repeatable tool geometry.
