The KENNAMETAL 5534258 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills operating in demanding metal-cutting applications. Manufactured to the SPPX insert style with a square shape and KCU25 fine-grain carbide grade, this insert features a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 0.3752 inches (9.53 mm), the thickness is 0.1563 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm). An 11-degree relief angle and FP chipbreaker geometry help control chip flow and reduce cutting forces in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and tool-room technicians.
This insert is suited for use in CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and dedicated drilling machines where indexable carbide inserts are specified for steel, stainless, and other ferrous workpiece materials. The KCU25 grade with CVD coating is particularly applicable in production drilling environments requiring consistent tool life and dimensional repeatability. The right-hand cutting configuration and size designation 09T308 match standard indexable drill bodies that accept SPPX-style inserts.
Designed as a direct-fit SPPX-style indexable drill insert for tool bodies accepting size 09T308 square inserts with a 0.1417-inch mounting hole diameter and right-hand cutting orientation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and locked out before insert indexing or replacement. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow the drill body manufacturer's setup documentation for correct insert orientation and projection.
