The KENNAMETAL 5534251 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drilling operations across metalworking and machining applications. Carrying the SPPXMD geometry designation and manufactured in the KCU40 grade, this insert features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) dual-layer coating of TiN and TiAlN for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The square SPPX insert shape provides multiple cutting edges, and the 0.8 mm corner radius helps manage cutting forces and surface finish. With an inscribed circle of 15.73 mm (0.6193 inches) and a thickness of 0.2343 inches, this insert is built to precise dimensional standards expected in production drilling environments. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for use in indexable drill bodies that accept the SPPX insert style with an 15T508 insert size designation. Typical applications include drilling operations on steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials in both production shop and job-shop environments. The MD chipbreaker geometry is designed for general-purpose chip control in moderate feed and speed drilling conditions. The 11-degree relief angle supports cutting clearance in through-hole and blind-hole drilling scenarios. Each package contains one insert, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
