The KENNAMETAL 5533666 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations in drilling applications. Manufactured in the SPGX31 insert style with a KCU25 grade designation, this insert features a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating that provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed or high-feed drilling. The inscribed circle measures 9.53 mm (0.3752 inches), the insert thickness is 0.1252 inches, and the corner radius is 0.79 mm (0.0311 inches). The fine-grain carbide substrate supports edge integrity under demanding chip loads. Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with compatible indexable drill bodies.
This insert is intended for use in indexable insert drills operating in ferrous and non-ferrous metal machining environments, including production turning centers, CNC machining centers, and dedicated drilling machines. The 80-degree included angle and square SPGX geometry make it suited for center and peripheral insert positions in appropriate drill bodies. The SPGX31 chipbreaker designation indicates the geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials. This insert ships in a minimum order quantity of 5 units, with individual package quantity of 1.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill bodies accepting SPGX-style square inserts with a 9.53 mm inscribed circle and 3.5 mm mounting hole diameter.
Indexable drill inserts of this type are installed and replaced by machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. Use the correct torx or hex key to the clamping screw as specified by the drill body manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and clocked correctly before resuming cutting operations.
