The KENNAMETAL 5533522 is a carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This EC-U style insert carries the KCU25 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied TiOCN coating, giving it strong wear resistance and thermal stability under continuous or interrupted cuts. The cutting width measures 2.00 mm (0.0790 inches), with an overall length of 9.00 mm (0.3530 inches). A neutral lead angle and 2-degree relief angle reduce lateral cutting forces and help maintain a clean, square parting face. It is part of the Beyond Evolution series and is intended for installation by machinists and tooling technicians in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for cut-off and grooving applications in both light and medium-duty turning operations. The right-hand orientation and CM chipbreaker geometry are matched to standard EC-U style parting toolholders. The single-end design means the cutting edge is on one end only, which is standard for precision parting inserts of this type. Typical applications include bar stock parting, face grooving, and shoulder grooving on CNC lathes in job shop and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement cutoff insert for EC-U style parting and grooving toolholders with an insert seat size of 2, as specified for the Beyond Evolution series system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly and squarely in the toolholder pocket before torquing the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Verify insert orientation and confirm the cutting edge is properly aligned before resuming operation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping fastener.
