The KENNAMETAL 5533363 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Beyond Evolution series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the ER-U insert style with a neutral hand orientation, it carries the KCU25 grade designation and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. The cutting width measures 4.88 mm (0.192 inches), with a maximum depth of cut of 2.99 mm (0.118 inches). The GUP chip breaker geometry and a 14-degree positive rake angle promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in production turning environments rely on this insert for consistent groove quality and extended tool life.
This insert is suited for grooving and profiling operations in light-to-medium material removal applications. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, making it appropriate for dry or minimal-coolant cutting conditions at elevated speeds. The full-radius configuration, with a corner radius of 2.44 mm (0.096 inches), supports smooth groove floor finishes. It fits insert seat size 4 toolholders configured for the ER-U insert style. This insert is sold individually and is not designated as a multi-use tool.
Designed for use in ER-U style insert seat size 4 toolholders. Consult KENNAMETAL toolholder documentation to confirm shank compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw driver per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder configuration before resuming machine operation.
