The KENNAMETAL 5531836 is a CNMG431FN-style indexable turning insert in grade KCP10B, designed for general-purpose metal cutting in CNC and manual turning operations. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN applied via MTCVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. It has a 0.508-inch insert length, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The diamond 80-degree included angle provides a strong cutting edge with good versatility across roughing and semi-finishing passes. With four usable cutting edges and compatibility with clamp and pin holding methods, this insert is a productive choice for steel and cast iron machining.
The 5531836 is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. It is commonly used in production environments where consistent tool life and surface finish on ferrous materials are priorities. The negative rake geometry and honed cutting edge style support stable chip formation at moderate to high feed rates. The FN chip breaker designation indicates a neutral-hand, free-cutting edge geometry appropriate for light to medium depths of cut up to 0.1 inch. This insert fits toolholders in the KENLOC series that accept CNMG-style inserts.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, disengage the machine spindle and confirm the toolholder is fully secure in the turret or tool post. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for chips or debris before seating a new insert edge.
