The KENNAMETAL 5513478 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ANSI designation CNMG543RP and ISO designation CNMG160612RP, finished in a multilayer MTCVD TiCN plus Al2O3 coating under the KCPK05 grade. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake geometry with a 5-degree rake angle. The inscribed circle measures 5/8 inch (0.625 inches), the corner radius is 3/64 inch (0.0469 inches), and insert thickness is 1/4 inch (0.250 inches). With four usable cutting edges and the RP chip breaker geometry, this insert is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations on steel and cast iron. It is held in place by clamp or pin methods and weighs approximately 0.044 pounds per piece.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron, with moderate capability on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The KCPK05 grade targets high wear resistance on steel (ISO P group, grades P05-P15) and moderate wear resistance with toughness on cast iron and non-ferrous materials (ISO K group, grades K25-K35). Typical users are CNC machinists and tool-room operators running moderate to heavy stock removal passes where consistent edge life and chip control are required.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders and compatible CNMG-style insert seats conforming to ANSI and ISO CNMG160612 standards. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications against the CNMG543 size code before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket before tightening the clamp or pin; an improperly seated insert can fracture under cutting loads. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for wear or damage each time an edge is indexed.
