The KENNAMETAL 5431737 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in M8x1 metric fine thread applications. Built from HSS-E (High-Speed Steel-E, grade KSP39) with an oxide coating, this tap offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features 3 flutes, a plug chamfer, and a right-hand thread direction. The overall length is 2.71 inches with a thread length of 0.69 inches (11/16 inches). The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it well suited for productive through-hole tapping on CNC machines and manual tapping setups. Licensed machinists, toolroom techs, and production shop operators are the primary users.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The M8x1 metric fine pitch makes it appropriate for applications requiring finer thread engagement than the standard M8x1.25 pitch, such as precision assemblies, thin-walled components, and hydraulic fittings. The D5 thread limit designation indicates a Class 6H tolerance range suitable for general metric threading work. It is part of the KENNAMETAL T820 series, which is engineered for consistent performance in mid-range production environments.
Designed for through-hole tapping in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron materials. Fits standard M8 tap holders and collet chucks sized for an 8.08 mm shank diameter. Part of the KENNAMETAL T820 series.
Installation should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with tapping operations. Power down or disengage the spindle before loading the tap into the holder. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel or cast iron. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled hole to prevent tap breakage; recommended pilot hole sizing should follow standard M8x1 metric fine drill chart values.
