The KENNAMETAL 5431706 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metric applications. Built to M6x1 thread size with a 6H class of fit, it cuts right-hand threads with consistent accuracy across a range of workpiece materials. The tap is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E (HSS-E), which provides improved toughness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS. A dual TiCN and TiN coating reduces friction, extends tool life, and helps resist wear in demanding cutting conditions. With a plug chamfer and 3-flute geometry, this tap is well-suited for production environments where through-hole threading speed and reliability matter. It is part of KENNAMETAL Series T820.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. It is commonly used in machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance operations where metric M6 threads are required. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for starting threads in through-holes where the tap can pass fully through the material. It is designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals where an M6x1 metric thread with 6H fit tolerance is specified. Material grade KSP32.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with tapping operations. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the workpiece is securely fixtured before tool changes. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to maximize tool life. Verify correct tap holder alignment and machine feed rate before beginning the threading cycle to avoid tap breakage.
